Charakteristisch für sein Ansehen bei den späteren Juristen ist der Satz nemo bonus iurista nisi bartolista (niemand ist ein guter Jurist, wenn er nicht Bartolist [Anhänger des Bartolus] ist). Bartolus lehrte in Pisa und Perugia.
