The revised and considerably enlarged edition of an anthology of English ballads, edited by bookseller Thomas Evans (1742-1784), and intended as a 'supplement to Percy's Reliques, and Ellis's Specimens of Antient Poetry'. The first edition, in two volumes, appeared in 1777. From the recently dispersed library of Eric Gerald Stanley (1923-2018), scholar of Old English literature, Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at the University of Oxford. ESTC T146588.
