Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. "A halo can be visible or invisible, yet it is always a manifestation of the inner nature of things." -Shay FrischIn Halo Shay Frisch reimagines the traditional notions of the halo for a contemporary audience. By drawing on historical, spiritual, and technological themes, the artist invites viewers to engage with energy as both a physical phenomenon and a metaphor for infinite possibility.Published on the occasion of his solo exhibition in Shanghai, Halo highlights the artist's large-scale, site-specific installations where light becomes a visible manifestation of electricity. Frisch's work connects sacred and secular realms and explores the enduring power of circular motifs to evoke connection, balance, and transcendence. Using circuits, bespoke electrical components, and industrial materials, the artist arranges these elements into geometric forms that emit light, transforming inert objects into dynamic fields of energy.Shay Frisch studied industrial design at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem and at IED in Milan before earning a Masters under the guidance of Andrea Branziat Domus Academy. In 1993 Frisch moved to Rome and established a design studio, which over the years has developed multiple projects worldwide. Frisch's work is found in various public and private collections, including the permanent collection of the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome. He lives and works in Rome. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. The work by the Irish contemporary artist.Edited by Shai Baitel, the book features twenty-two large painted canvases and six freestanding sculptures that speak to Ward's nomadic lifestyle driven by a need for both escapism and its darker counterpart, avoidance. Though known for his figurative work, Ward explores these themes through abstract compositions and mixed media sculptures.Walking in the Dark speaks to the themes of migration and traumas - both national and personal - by asking the question of: why do people roam? What is the aftermath of perpetual movement? Like the abstracted nature of Ward's artworks, a nomadic sensibility often abstracts the deeper reasons for such roaming. His work begets questions around what exactly Ward is veiling through his travels. Like the act of walking in the dark, viewing Ward's work requires one's eyes to adjust to see what would otherwise not be detected.Using wet, loose brush strokes with distinctive markings on the oversized canvases, he tells his story through a nostalgic veil of innocence and naivety, revealing snapshots of the past while simultaneously obscuring or hiding others, with each layer depicting different fragments of time that are indeed screen-shots of the artist's life. There is an abundance of hidden psychological, political, and emotional meaning to be discovered in Walking in the Dark, exemplified by the labyrinthine and shaded design of the space where the artworks are being shown. It narrates a story that is both timely and provocative, reflecting the artist's personal experience with chaos, governance, and violence, while commenting on the breakdown of society and referencing to both historical and modern-day global disputes. While engaging with themes of destruction and conflict, Ward's work addresses his own life, defined by a perpetual sense of movement and a constant feeling of geographical restlessness. Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. "Seeing many of my works years after I completed them is a fascinating experience. I don't really associate them with any particular time or place or state of mind, but view them as part of a long arc; a continuing of the way we go forth in the world and the way our perceptions are shaped and altered by life. One can be as profoundly influenced by events in Morretes, Brazil as the y can be by the man who sells them El Pais in Madrid." -Bob Dylan, 2021 Spanning six decades, Retrospectrum showcases the development and range of Dylan's visual practice, in tandem with that of his musical and literary canon. It features a wide selection of Bob Dylan's artworks in an array of media, with important works loaned from private collections around the world. The artist's diverse creations include oil, acrylic and watercolor paintings, as well as his ink, pastel and charcoal drawings and distinctive ironwork sculptures. Among the artworks presented in Retrospectrum are some of the artist's earliest ink sketches first published in 1973's Writings and Drawings that illustrated and compiled Dylan's lyrics up until that time. These drawings are shown alongside works from last year's Mondo Scripto series, in which Dylan revisited some of his most renowned lyrics, hand-writing and illustrating them in his unique hand. The book also features the iconic Train Tracks paintings representing The Drawn Blank Series (2008) that first brought Bob Dylan's visual artworks to critical and popular acclaim. Retrospectrum also presents paintings from Dylan's The New Orleans Series and The Asia Series (from 2012 and 2010 respectively), inspired by the artist's own travels, as well as works from his hugely popular The Beaten Path Series (2015 - present). Among the artist's most rarely seen pieces are his industrial ironworks, created from repurposed objects that speak to America's industrial past.
