(Author's preface). English historian, poet and JacobiteBevill Higgons(1670-1735) went into exile in France with James II. Hedevoted his life to literary pursuits after being incarcerated in 1695as a suspect in an attempted assassination of William III. The secondedition of this book was dated in 1734 and Higgons dedicated it to TheDuchess of Buckingham and Normandy. This copy has a hand-writtencontemporary (?) note: "This work was ordered by the English Parliamentto be burnt by the Hangman." Unfortunately no verification of this notehas been found.…
