A monograph on the German modernist photographer Arvid Gutschow (1900-1984) who first gained fame through his inclusion in the landmark photography exhibition Film und Foto held in Stuttgart in May-June 1929 and then went on to a broader audience with the publication of See Sand Sonne (Sea Sand Sun) in 1930. His best-known work is of abstracted landscapes: spacious, airy depictions of the sea, tidal flats, dunes, beaches and coastal plants emphasized natural structures and formations, such as the reflection of light on the surface of the water, or wind blowing across beaches and dunes.
