Author's four-line black felt-tip ink inscription "For Beatrice McConnell | With thanks + best wishes | to a good Democrat. | Averell Harriman" upon the front free endpaper; interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding retains some crispness. Laid-in at front endpaper is yellow card of the Woman's National Democratic Club with inscribee's handwritten name so evidently the club was the facilitator of Harriman's inscription. Acquired from a Tupelo, Mississippi estate with no further provenance known.
