Inspired by the August 1907 murder of Sr. Mary Janina Mezek. Named best Broadway Play of 1976 in the annual Best Plays book. Set in 1911 in Michigan, a Roman Catholic priest on trial for a nun's murder. Milan Sitt wrote the screenplay for the 1979 film adaptation directed by Stanley Kramer (his final film), and starring Dick Van Dyke, Kathleen Quinlan, and Maureen Stapleton.
