Oblong folio (9 2/8 x 12 inches). Water-colour title-page, and 6 fine views in and around the French Spa town of Bourbonne les Bains signed by the artist "Auguste", or initialed A.J and dated 1842; with 7 additional water-colours ascribed to the Comte de Murinais, presumably Antoine Charles Francois d'Auberjon de Murinais (1804-… after 1853) by Jassaud; and bound with 10 lithographs published by Thierry Freres (spotted), and several blank leaves. Contemporary maroon roan, elaborately decorated in blind (scuffed). A charming album of water-colours, depicting the ancient spa town of Bourbonne les bains, including a plan, the interior of L'Eglise de Notre Dame de Bourbonne, the place de l'Hotel de ville, bath house and lodges. Bourbonne les bains has been renowned for its healing hot springs for more than 2000 years. It was known to the Gauls and Romans, who named the town Aquae Borvonis. Jassaud was formerly lieutenant-major in the gardes-du-corps of Charles X. Catalogued by Kate Hunter. Signed by Author(s).
