Die Heimatliebe u. die Ehrung der Ueberlieferungen ihrer Stadt, welche die Bewohner Nördlingens erkennen lassen, haben meinem Glauben an die unfassbaren u. darum unverwüstlichen Kräfte unseres Volkes neuen Auftrieb verliehen. Solch betätigte Treue schafft Vaterlandsliebe. Ich habe in Nördlingen mich also an Altem u. Neuem erbaut, an der Stein gewordenen Vergangenheit u. an dem in seinen heutigen Bewohnern lebendigen Geist. ,Lieb' Vaterland magst ruhig sein' kam mir in den Sinn, Möchte der alte Soldat von 1870/71 u.
