Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a detailed account of the excavation of a remarkable tomb in the Lisht cemetery, located near the pyramids of Amenemhat I and Senusert I. The tomb, belonging to a woman named Senebtisi, dates back to the Twelfth Dynasty, a period of great prosperity and cultural achi…evement in ancient Egypt. The author meticulously documents the process of clearing the tomb, revealing a wealth of artifacts, including intricately crafted coffins, exquisite jewelry, and ceremonial staves. The author skillfully blends a vivid description of the archaeological process with insights into the ancient Egyptian beliefs surrounding death and burial. The arrangement of the tomb's contents, the types of objects found, and the inscriptions on the coffins provide valuable information about the funerary rituals of the time. The tomb of Senebtisi, as the author points out, stands out for its rich contents, offering a glimpse into the elaborate burial practices of the elite during the Middle Kingdom. The book's meticulous documentation and insightful analysis make it an essential resource for anyone interested in understanding the complex world of ancient Egyptian burial practices. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Hardcover. Condición: Good to very good condition. First edition. 1/1000. Folio. xxii, 132pp., 35 plates, three of them and frontispiece o restored anthropoid coffin, chromolithographs. Original half leather over textured brown, paper-covered boards with gilt lettering on cover and spine. Gilt top edge. Publication of the Metrop…olitan Museum of Art Egyptian Expedition. Frontispiece chromolithograph; printed tissue guards. First of the museum publications relating to its excavations in Egypt. "The tomb described in this volume was found during the winter of 1906-7, in the course of our first season's work at Lisht. The tomb is published as a unit in itself, and there will be no discussion in the present volume of its relation either to the other tombs in the cemetery, or to the mastaba within the enclosure walls of which it was situated." (Introduction). Little is known about this woman who lived at the end of the 12th Dynasty. In her undisturbed tomb records were found indicating a second name for her, Zathapy (daughter of Apis, a son of Hathor, a primary deity in the pantheon of ancient Egypt), bearing the common title "Lady of the House." Her mummified body was placed in a set of three coffins. The volume is beautifully illustrated with numerous in-text drawings and thirty-five plates rendered lithographically, three of them in color. Contains list of illustrations and plates at front, appendix with notes on the mummy, indices of names of objects from the painted coffins, authorities cited and general index at end of text. Block uncut at bottom and foredge. Binding with light wear along edges, some scuffing of leather at head, tail and joints of spine. Some sunning, e.g. gilt top edge. Book plate on inside front cover. Light smudging of endpapers.
