Hardcover. Condición: New. The only woman to be represented on a Swiss banknote (the 50-franc note), Sophie Taeuber-Arp was one of the twentieth century's most innovative artists, in painting, sculpture, textiles, dance, architecture and puppetry. Often occupying this role of the only "woman"--in exhibitions, or when socializing among Dadaists and Concrete artists and elsewhere--Taeuber-Arp nevertheless went about her diverse activities as though gender obstacles were immaterial, and steadily built up a massive body of work whose consistent qualities are warmth, clarity and liveliness. Sophie Taeuber-Arp: Movement and Balance is the most complete survey of the artist's work available in any language to date. Packed with full-color illustrations of her work in all media, from her pre-Concrete abstractions to her fabrics, watercolors, canvases, reliefs and her wonderful marionettes, as well as a visual chronology with archival photographs of Taeuber-Arp posing in her costumes, or next to her works with her husband Hans (Jean) Arp, this volume demonstrates the exemplary adventurousness of her career.…

Softcover. White wraps with bw illustration, dustjacket of transparent plastic. Unnumbered pages. Features 11 bw illustrations. Presentation copy inscribed by the sculptor. "Around 1943 I met, in the Drome, a photo of a small Stahly wood, Le Doigt and, by letter, I immediately bought this work, without having seen it. Stahly was at that time a shepherd in the highs of Burgundy, where he was hiding from the enemy of the time. Since then I have acquired other works from him, including two large ones, and I have lived for years with them, in my room and in my office, among Brancusis, without getting tired, on the contrary. Why speak of space and rhythm, 'big words' whose deep meaning escapes man? - I will simply say that Stahly contains a finesse, an attention, a natural lyrical transposition, a humor, a patience and a continuity that bind me to his work and make me curious about the rest" - introduction by Henri Pierre Roche. VG- plastic dj yellowed and torn at top left edge, "Stahly" written with pen on spine of book, sticker on plastic dj, wraps with some wear at edges, pages and content excellent. …
