Anthony Armstrong was the pen name of George Anthony Armstrong Willis (1897-1976), an British-Canadian writer and dramatist. A writer in diverse genres, Armstrong's 'Naughty Princess' is a collection of fairy stories for adults, following on from his similar collection, Pack of Pieces (1942). Delightful, witty and tad risqué, the stories, most of which were published earlier in Strand Magazine, are both a challenge and a tribute to the conventional fairy tale trope. Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fair. 1st Edition. First published in 1945, this is a second impression of 1946. Jacket sadly somewhat tatty, with edge wear, chipping, short closed tears and old tape repairs to top and bottom of jacket and spine, corners rubbed with tiny loss, some slight overall time staining. Not price clipped (10/6) no inscriptions, internally clean tight and square, overall a reasonable copy for its age. 167pp, illustrated. A collection of short stories that were originally published in The Strand magazine. It's that rare thing, a book that can be appreciated by children, but has been written for adults. Royal fairy stories, with a martini drinking fairy godmother, a court magician and a court poet fighting with verses and spells to woo the princess Lillia, a magic looking glass that goatishly looks at the owner as she coquettishly changes clothes, a frog that upon being kissed reveals himself as a very unattractive young man, albeit a prince, and is promptly turned back into a frog by a world weary woman who wants some peace from the hurly burly of royal romance and would rather flirt with the gardener. Saucy Princesses, knights that liked a drink and were quite terrified of dragons, and enchanted Royal rose gardens (online review). George Anthony Armstrong Willis (1897-1976), was an Anglo Canadian writer, dramatist and essayist. Armstrong contributed to the screenplay of Hitchcock's 'Young and Innocent' (1937), and several of his own works were adapted into films including 'The Strange Case of Mr Pelham', which was made into a first season episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents (and directed by Hitchcock), and the film 'The Man Who Haunted Himself' (1970). He was the grandfather of art expert Rupert Maas. Jacket and illustrations by A. K. Macdonald (ilustrador).…
