'There were few intellectuals in the eighteenth century who had a greater public impact that Isaac Watts (1674-1748). His books went into countless editions and were standard texts in non-conformist colleges from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Harvard and Yale. Watts was versatile and his writings broad-ranging, including metaphysics, logic, astronomy, moral philosophy, geography, natural and revealed theology, church politics and organization, education and many other related matters.
