Bound in the original pale gray wraps, printed in black on the spine and front cover. The spine is tight, square, and flat. NO creases. Several pages have a light brown… spot (1 cm x 2 cm, or less) at the top edge. The spot is in the margin only; so NO text is affected. There are also a few speckles (foxing) on the spine. Text pages are clean. No foxing. No underlining. No highlighting. No margin notes. Includes papers in English, French, and German from leading geologists such as A. P. Coleman, Willet G. Miller, J. J. Sederholm, J. F. Kemp, G. de Greer, A. Lindman, J. W. Richards, P. Tutkowsky, W. M. Davis, Albrecht Penck, Reginald A. Daly, Eliot Blackwelder, etc. Illustrated with figures, photos, and a few fold-out maps/charts. This copy is from the library of, and bears the small ink stamp of Robert B. Sosman. Dr. Sosman's name is printed in the book (on page 37) where he is listed as a Member of the Congress, representing the Carnegie Institution's Geophysical Laboratory. A geophysicist and physical chemist, Robert Browning Sosman received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1907, at the age of 26. By 1908 he had joined the Geo-Physical Laboratory of the Carnegie Institution. Dr. Sosman worked at the Geo-Physical Laboratory for 20 years, serving 8 years as Assistant Director. During World War I, his contributions there were instrumental in establishing America's capacity for manufacturing optical glass. In 1928 he left to join the United States Steel Corporation as Assistant Director of Research. Following his retirement from U.S. Steel in 1947, he became visiting professor of Ceramics at Rutgers University. Dr. Sosman was a past president of the American Ceramic Society. In his honor, the Society established The Robert B. Sosman Award, "the highest recognition of scientific accomplishment given by the Basic Science Division. in recognition of outstanding achievement in basic science of an area that results in a significant impact to the field of ceramics.".
