Añadir al carritoCloth. Condición: Very Good. None Ilustrador. First edition. A vanishingly scarce, first edition of this satirical novel, which was initially withdrawn after release due to its controversial nature. The first edition of this exceptionally scarce novel, with only four known copies held institutionally. The debut novel of Oliver Anderson, written under the pseudonym Julian Pine. This highly satirical novel is based on the authors observations of the Lincolnshire town of Grantham, where he was educated. The publication of 'Rotten Borough' immediately caused a huge scandal, being withdrawn from shelves within weeks due to a number of influential town dignitaries claiming to see unfair depictions of themselves in its pages. This caused a national controversy, with important figures including Lord Brownlow, friend to King Edward VIII, and Alfred Roberts, the father of Margaret Thatcher, allegedly being the basis of two of the characters. Despite this strong interest and speculation from the public, Anderson has consistently denied the links between his characters and their supposed real-life counterparts. The book was republished in 1989 due to renewed public interest during the time of Margaret Thatcher's leadership.Bound in the publisher's original cloth. With an article on the author loosely inserted. Two pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. Bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, very good, with light rubbing to joint and marks to the cloth. Spine is slightly faded. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Very Good. book.
