Pale green paper covers lightly rubbed with slight wear at fore-edge corners; slight vertical crease to spine. Touch of soiling to text block's top edge and bottom edge. Seven-line ink inscription "To Sarah | With deep appreciation | for advice, friendship, | and encouragement | Fondly, | Harriet | July 22, 1994" upon half-title page; interior leaves are otherwise bright and clean. Binding remains fairly crisp. The inscribee is Dr. Sarah Woolfolk Wiggins (1934-2020) who, upon earning her doctorate at Louisiana State University under the tutelage of Professor T. Harry Williams, enjoyed an illustrious career as the first female professor in the history department at the University of Alabama, served as editor of "The Alabama Review" for two decades, and authored two books regarding Alabama history.
