Being a description of most of the geese inhabiting the old world. 198 pp plus 24 stunning colored plates by Frohawk and a frontis by Sushkin. Extra large format 14 in high x 11 inch wide. Considered the first detailed account of this interesting group of birds. A lovely copy. Near fine in orig. green gilt cloth AND laid inside is the original double sided Rowland Ward promotional flyer for the book. Although the book shows no limitation, the prospectus states that this is a limited edition. It most likely was published in a small number. We have never seen a copy offered before with the prospectus (which also is in fine condition). Superb item for a collector.

Green cloth remains clean, and gilt stamped lettering is good. Book plate on front paste down, and inked name/date on half title page. Penciled marginalia scattered throughout. Plates show generally light foxing that does not affect image, except last three plates with a little heavier foxing partially affecting images. Volume remains tight and is otherwise clean. An English translation by John Marshall, M.A., of the author's first edition which was published in Russia in 1904, foxing to prelims & a few plates not affecting image & final plate foxed. In original green cloth, gilt, with gilt title rubbed to spine, otherwise very good, tight & sound. All the known species and subspecies of Paleartic geese are described and figured. The text consists of an introduction with a general account of the group of birds dealt with, a key to the genera, species and subspecies, and a discussion to the individual species or subspecies.

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Large 4to, ix, [1], 197pp. 24 plates, 25 with frontispiece. Original green cloth lettered in gilt to the front board and spine. Top edge gilt. Corners bumped, with light wear to the cloth at the spine ends, and a heavier bump to the spine head. Hinges are a little strained from the heavy text-block. The plates section at the end is weak and one plate is detached, a couple others want to detach themselves from the tabs but are still in place. The book is clean throughout, only a few leaves of text wrinkled lightly at the end and to the margins only, really not bad. Overall a good clean copy. From the library of Harry G. Lumsfeld, biologist and research scientist with Ontario's Ministry of Natural Resources. In 2004 Harry Lumsfeld became a Member of the Order of Canada for his outstanding contribution to wildlife management and conservation.

A beautifully produced work on the various species of geese. The plates are especially fine to look at. Contains 24 color chromolithograph plates of geese and their bills by F.W. Frohawk and colored frontispiece by Dr. P.P. Sushkin. An English translation by John Marshall, M.A., of the author's first edition which was published in Russia in 1904. A very good copy, some of the gilt of the letters on the front cover rubbed. Foxing to prelims & a few plates not affecting image & final plate foxed.
