Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. Author: Alexandre Dumas (1802-1870) Title: The Count of Monte Cristo Publication Details London: J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd.; New York: E. P. Dutton & Co., 1938. Complete in two volumes. Everyman's Library Nos. 393 and 394. Hardbacks in the original red Everyman's Library…dust jackets. Description An attractive complete two-volume 1938 Everyman's Library edition of Alexandre Dumas's great historical adventure novel, The Count of Monte Cristo. One of the classics of nineteenth-century French literature, the novel follows Edmond Dantès from his wrongful imprisonment in the Château d'If through his remarkable escape, acquisition of a great fortune and elaborate pursuit of justice and revenge. The two volumes comprise: Volume I - Everyman's Library No. 393 Volume II - Everyman's Library No. 394 Both retain their striking original red Everyman's Library dust jackets, with cream title panels, decorative black devices to the front boards and contemporary Everyman's Library advertisements to the rear. Binding Publisher's original cloth bindings, complete with the original unclipped dust jackets. Condition Very Good in Good dust jackets. A very pleasing and firmly bound matching two-volume set. Both volumes have very tight bindings and secure text blocks, with clear, cleanly printed text throughout. The interiors are well preserved, with normal age-related toning. Volume I bears a pencil ownership inscription to the front endpaper. Both volumes retain their original, unclipped red Everyman's Library dust jackets. The front panels remain bright, attractive and substantially complete, with strong red colour and clear lettering and decoration. The jackets show age-related rubbing, creasing and wear to the edges, corners and folds. There is chipping and small areas of paper loss at the spine extremities. Volume II has a more noticeable area of loss at the head of the spine, exposing a small portion of the cloth beneath. Volume I also shows wear and minor loss at the spine ends. There are small closed tears and rubbing along some edges and corners. The spine lettering remains clearly legible on both volumes. A small circular former price/bookseller sticker is present towards the lower spine of Volume II. The rear jacket panels remain unusually well preserved and fully legible, retaining the contemporary Everyman's Library advertisements, with general age-toning and light edge wear. Neither dust jacket has been price clipped. Overall, a very attractive example of this increasingly difficult-to-find matching two-volume Everyman set, particularly appealing for retaining both original 1938 dust jackets. Please refer closely to the photographs, which form an important part of the condition description.
