Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. An intimate, cross-generational conversation through mail artAmerican multimedia artist David Horvitz (born 1982) visited visual poet and mail artist Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (born 1932) in her native Germany while conducting research in 2014. There, Horvitz discovered her archives of "typewritings," graphic works that Wolf-Rehfeldt had used for mail art and sent across the globe from her studio in East Berlin in the 1970s. Later, Horvitz invited Wolf-Rehfeldt to use a disposable camera to record images of her house and garden and, in return, he photographed his studio in Los Angeles. These snapshots and dialogues are presented along with Horvitz's text-based watercolors--such as For Ruth, the sky in los angeles and For Ruth, the wind to you, which were original sent as mail art. Together they constitute a delightful dialogue. Horvitz and Wolf-Rehfeldt are generations apart, but their ideas of art are very closely related. Horvitz invited her to use a disposable camera to record her house and, in return, he photographed his studio in Los Angeles. These snapshots and dialogues were sent via mail art documenting their ongoing correspondence. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Three decades of minimalist electronic sound and light installations by German multimedia artist Carsten NicolaiSince the early 1990s, Berlin-based artist Carsten Nicolai (born 1965)--also known as the electronic musician Alva Noto--has worked at the intersection of visual art, music and science. Parallax Symmetry gathers roughly 40 installation works. In 1926 El Lissitzky created an unconventional exhibition space in Dresden. His Room for Constructive Art connected the notion that space and the viewer are constitutive elements of an artwork and that the reception of art can be activated through the organization of space. For Ruth, the wind to you. Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt and David Horvitz. The American artist visited Wolf-Rehfeldt in Berlin while conducting research in 2014 and discovered her 1970s' 'typewritings' in her archive: graphic works that she had used for her mail art and sent out to the world from East Berlin. Horvitz was instrumental in the rediscovery of Wolf-Rehfeldt's outstanding work, which was also honoured at documenta 14 (2017). The two have been exchanging ideas ever since they first met, even though the 87-year-old has not worked artistically in the post-GDR period. Horvitz invited her to use a disposable camera to record images of her house and garden and, in return, he photographed his studio in Los Angeles. These snapshots and dialogues, as well as his text-based watercolours-such as For Ruth, the sky in los angeles and For Ruth, the wind to you-which were sent via mail art and often simply addressed to 'Ruth - Berlin', document their ongoing correspondence. For Ruth, the wind to you, Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt and David Horvitz, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archives, Fall 2022 - Spring 2023Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (b. 1932 in Wurzen) created series of typewriter graphics-'typewritings'-a practice that she began in the early 1970s.
