This is a first edition of Tyrwhitt of the Harwich Force: The Life of Admiral of the Fleet Sir Reginald Tyrwhitt, written in 1973 by the English historian Albert Temple Patterson. This is known as the most comprehensive biography of one of the better WWI British commanders: Commodore Sir Reginald Yorke Tyrwhitt (1870 - 1951). As commander of the famed Harwich Force, Tyrwhitt led a supporting naval force of 31 destroyers and two cruisers at the 1914 Battle of Heligoland Bight, in which the 1st Battle cruiser Squadron sank three German cruisers and one German destroyer. Tyrwhitt also led the British naval forces during the Cuxhaven Raid in December 1914, when British seaplanes destroyed German Zeppelin airships, and at the Battle of Dogger Bank in January 1915. After the war, Tyrwhitt went on to be Senior Naval Officer, Gibraltar, Commander of the 3rd Light Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean Fleet and then Commander-in-Chief, Coast of Scotland. He also served as Commander-in-Chief, China during a period of disturbances and tension with the Nationalist Government. This copy is 336 pages, including photos.
