Electa 2008. Alan Sonfist è un artista americano, noto soprattutto come "pioniere" e "precursore" del movimento della Land Art. Si è fatto notare per la prima volta per il suo "Time Landscape" all'angolo tra West Houston Street e LaGuardia Place, nel Greenwich Village di New York. Proposta nel 1965, la scultura ambientale "Time Landscape" ha richiesto oltre dieci anni di attenta pianificazione da parte della città di New York. È stata spesso citata come la prima foresta urbana di questo tipo. Nella straordinaria gamma delle sue opere, Alan Sonfist ricrea l'inventiva e l'intricatezza del suo soggetto, il mondo naturale stesso. A partire dall'adolescenza negli anni Sessanta, Sonfist ha esplorato le questioni del deterioramento ecologico, della conservazione e di quello che in seguito sarebbe stato inteso come "cambiamento climatico" attraverso progetti che attingono ai materiali e ai metodi del naturalista, dello storico e dell'urbanista.
