Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Fine. 1st Edition. A real nice clean unmarked 224 page first edition hardcover with 1 low in number line. Has been price clipped. This book skims a rich historical vein that includes labor struggles; fights for the vote, civil rights, and the Equal Rights Amendment; war work; and the second wave women's movement. Fiery quotes and many iconic pictures and eye-catching layouts conjure up women's lives in hot, crowded tenements, on dustbowl farms, working in the mills, or as political or popular celebrities. Some--such as Eleanor Roosevelt and birth control maverick Margaret Sanger--staunchly supported women's rights, while others--such as comedian Lucille Ball and assorted actresses--seem to have been chosen for box office appeal. Size: 11 1/4h X 8 3/4w. Book.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. The Inca Empire (c. 1400-1532) was the largest Indigenous state to develop in the Americas, spanning the extraordinarily rich landscapes of the central Andes. Scholarly approaches to Inca-era economies initially drew on Spanish colonial documents that emphasized royal resource monopolies, labor tribute, and kin-based land tenure. Anthropologists in recent decades have emphasized local economic self-sufficiency and the role of reciprocity in Inca economics. This Element adds to the existing literature by reviewing recent archaeological research in the Inca capital region and different provinces. The material evidence and documents indicate considerable variation in the development and implementation of Inca political economy, reflecting an array of local economic practices that were tailored to different Andean environments. Although Inca economic development downplayed interregional trade, emerging evidence indicates the existence of more specialized trading practices in Inca peripheral regions, some of which persisted under imperial rule.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. Previous accounts of the fall of the Inca empire have played up the importance of the events of one violent day in November 1532 at the highland Andean town of Cajamarca. To some, the "Cajamarca miracle" -- in which Francisco Pizarro and a small contingent of Spaniards captured an Inca who led an army numbering in the tens of thousands -- demonstrated the intervention of divine providence. To others, the outcome was simply the result of European technological and immunological superiority. Inca Apocalypse develops a new perspective on the Spanish invasion and transformation of the Inca realm. Alan Covey's sweeping narrative traces the origins of the Inca and Spanish empire, identifying how Andean and Iberian beliefs about the world's end shaped the collision of the two civilizations. Rather than a decisive victory on the field at Cajamarca, the Spanish conquest was an uncertain, disruptive process that reshaped the world views of those on each side of the conflict. The survivors built colonial Peru, a new society that never forgot the Inca imperial legacy or the enduring supernatural power of the Andean landscape. Covey retells a familiar story of conquest at a larger historical and geographical scale than ever before. This rich new history, based on the latest archaeological and historical evidence, illuminates mysteries that still surround the last days of the largest empire in the pre-Columbian Americas. Oxford University Press, Hardcover, 1st Edition, 1st Printing, 2020 THIS IS A BRAND NEW BOOK.
