The black covers of both books are somewhat worn and scruffy, with spines neatly mended with black paper passe-partout.The guttering to the eps in both books both front and back is split. There is a small circular heraldic bookplate to pdep in both books, belonging to Dudley George Cary-Elwes, author of 'A history of the Castles, Mansions and Manors of West sussex.' The binding of both books is loosened.The texts of both volumes are clean and neat with no foxing or other marks.
