Rear gutter is cracked through, but covers remain attached and there are no loose pages. Some chipping along fore edge at front of text block. Previous owner's inscription on front free endpaper. Some foxing throughout. Illustrations throughout. Overall, a fair copy in good reading condition.

End papers bright and clean, hinges neatly reinforced with archival tape. Internally, firmly bound. Half title and title page both archivally reinforced at gutter. Hinges of 1868 volume strained, but firmly held. Clamshell fine. Internally, 1852 volume strained throughout, with remaining volumes lightly strained.
