Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Here is a rare volume of meditations on the crucifixion of Christ and the meaning of His life by One of the Greatest Ministers of Nineteenth Century America, Reverend Lyman Abbott. "The Crucifers" was Abbott's Last Work, and published by The Womans Press of the YWCA in 1923, with a Foreword by William Sloane Coffin Lyman Abbott was one of the most influential Protestant preachers in the nineteenth century. He was an accomplished public speaker and his sermons were esteemed. Abbott wrote numerous books on theology. William Sloane Coffin wrote the foreword to the book, which actually reads as a sort of eulogy for Lyman Abbot, who had recently died. TITLE : The Crucifers (Containing the following sermons, or meditations : "The Institutions of Irreligion"; "The Worldly-Minded Church Member"; "The Ambitious Ecclesiastic"; "The Cowardly Politician"; "The Callous Profiteers"; "The First Pagan Convert") AUTHOR : Lyman Abbott (1835 - 1922 ) FOREWORD : Henry Sloane Coffin (1877 - 1954) DATE : 1923 PLACE : No place stated [New York] IMPRINT : Woman's Press (under the aegis of the National Board of the YWCA EDITION : First Edition STATUS : Out of Print - OP DETAILS : Small Hardcover; Contains a Foreword; 98 pages ; approximately 4 1/4" x 6 1/2"; blue-back boards with paper title affixed as a wrap around the spine from the front board to the rear. This book is fairly scarce on the market. About 20 libraries world-wide have catalogued "The Crucifers". I thus conclude that it had a small printing. CONDITION . This is a previously owned book that remains clean and attractive, with the following particulars noted: EXTERIOR - Small loss through chipping at head of spine, and slight compression to foot of spine; mild surface rub and a bit of small, vague smudging -- mostly on rear board; a couple of tiny spots; corners are softly bumped; title displays brightly . else clean and presentable. Text-block edges are clean. BINDING - Solid INTERIOR - End-papers are clean; there is the slightest bit of mild surface rumple to paper at a couple of spots, else clean and presentable DUST-JACKET : None present . (issued?).…

Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book studies Christ's teachings and life, framed against the backdrop of the Gospels and contemporary Jewish culture. Seeking to present a rational understanding of Christ's divinity and profound influence, the author draws on historical, geographical, and archaeological sources, without assuming any prior religious knowledge from the reader. Key themes explored include the contrast between Christ's humility and the grandeur of his mission, the contrast between the world's idea of a Messiah and Christ's true nature, and the unique way in which Christ's divinity both exalts and humbles humanity. The author's goal is to help readers develop a deeper understanding of Christ's life by grounding it in the realities of first-century Palestine. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …

"From the first, Campbell's writings were of a philanthropic and domestic character. She becoming an earnest student of economic and social problems, especially in connection with the conditions of laboring women. She wrote several important studies about women trapped in poverty, and the role that effective home economics could play in lifting women and families out of poverty. She was active in many organizations that advocated female empowerment and associated with many intellectuals and original thinkers, including writer Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Much of her writing was engaging and vigorous. Her pieces exposed Gilded Age social inequities and public health failures." (from Wikipedia).…
