Seit 1893 a.o. Prof. der Hygiene und Vorstand des Hygiene-Instituts in Graz, wurde er 1899 Ordinarius und errichtete 1906 an seinem Institut die erste bakteriologische Untersuchungsstelle der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie. 1919 wurde er zum Hofrat ernannt. Er befaßte sich vor allem mit ernährungsphysiologischen Studien und Untersuchungen über Säuglingssterblichkeit, Wohnungsfragen und Stadthygiene und veröffentlichte u.a. Grundzüge der Hygiene (1892).
