Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents an in-depth examination of the communal revolution in Western Europe from the 10th to the 13th century. During this period, hundreds of towns gained increased autonomy from their feudal lords. While the author acknowledges the influence of ancient Roman institutions and Germanic traditions, the book argues that the primary cause of the communal revolution was a 10th-century revival of commerce and trade. As towns grew in wealth and population, urban populations began to form groups that would challenge their lords and demand rights and privileges. The book offers a nuanced exploration of the communal revolution, examining how townspeople organized themselves, their tactics for bargaining with their lords, and the diverse outcomes of their efforts. This book is a significant contribution to the study of the Middle Ages, providing a comprehensive analysis of the forces that transformed Europe's political landscape and established the foundations for modern urban life. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
