The proposals would see the established narrow-gauge light railway extended both north and south and linked with metre gauge lines in the region and allow for an increase in traffic facilities in the existing sections of the Gwalior-Sipri and Gwalior-Bhind lines. He was engaged in railway and constructional work in the United Kingdom and in India. He was joint consulting engineer for the Southern Punjab Railway until its liquidation. During the great war he was a member of the Headquarters staff of the Department of Explosives Supply, Ministry of Munitions. In 1918 he became a partner in the firm of Sir John Wolfe Barry, Lyster, and Partners, and in 1920 was appointed civil engineering member of the Royal Commission on Uniform Railway Gauge for the Commonwealth of Australia, which prepared a report to the Governor-General. In 1922 he joined, as a partner, the firm of Sir Alexander Gibb and Partners, and was actively engaged, until his death, in all branches of constructional engineering, and particularly in connexion with hydro-electric power, tunnelling, waterworks, structural steelwork, docks and harbours, and foundation work. He was a member of the Home Office panel of civil engineers under the Reservoirs (Safety Provisions) Act, 1930. Brigadier-General Sir Alexander Gibb GBE CB FRS FRSE (18721958) was a Scottish civil engineer. After serving as Civil Engineer-in-Chief to the Admiralty and Director-General of Civil Engineering at the Ministry of Transport, he established the engineering consultancy firm Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners. Gibb founded his own firm, Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners, in 1922 after becoming a consulting engineer the year before. He was involved in a variety of projects worldwide. Bound is quarter cloth, on marbled paper boards. Printed privately. A vanishingly scarce collection of facsimile documents relating to engineering works for the National Munitions Programme during the Second World War. Comprising of correspondence between the engineering firm, Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners, and the British Ministry of Supply. Documents featured include telegraphs, letters, financial records, contracts and much more. Some of the work carried out by Sir Alexander Gibb included the munitions Factories at Ruddington, Walsall and Featherstone. The engineering work carried out was incredibly important for the help of the war effort, and was under strict national security rules. To quote one of the documents featured, '"Strict secrecy is necessary regarding the nature of the work performed under this agreement". Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners was a British civil engineering firm based in London. It was founded in 1922 by the Scottish civil engineer, Sir Alexander Gibb, who was alive at the time these documents were originally composed. Some of the firms most notable projects include the design of the Galloway Hydro Electric development, the Drakelow Tunnels underground military complex, Owen Falls dam in Uganda and the Cleddau Bridge in Wales. A fascinating insight into the engineering work of the Second World War. In a quarter cloth binding. Externally, smart with shelf wear to the extremities. Light fading to the spines.
