Chamberlain (1947 Hardcover without Dust Jacket) This book 8 represents the culmination of grammar school literature text series "Beacon Lights of Literature." This book was prepared without regard to the state in which the subject was to be taught. The subject matter covered was developed to satisfy the program outlined in "An Experience Curriculum in English," the national consensus of educators regarding what and how English literature should be taught in the US schools in the 1940s. Stories are grouped into 13 sections including one section on radio broadcasting and one section on motion pictures. Each section has an additional reading lists, biographic sketches of the authors, Questions & Exercises regarding the reading, and use of footnotes for unfamiliar phrases and words. There are 73 readings with 23 full-page line illustrations. None of the illustrators are named. Only one author was noticed to have written 2 readings. xviii + 749pp + 1pp ad. Under 8" tall 8vo Hardcover has rust-colored cloth boards with black lettering & designs, but no DJ. Spine still attached, although covers worn through cloth. Front end-page through frontis has been torn out. This has left some front pages loose but laid in. Remainder of text appears complete.
