DECEASED EMMY AWARD WINNING ACTRESS, MISS SOTHERN, WHO PASSED AWAY IN 2001, WON 5 EMMY AWARDS FOR TELEVISION SHOWS IN THE 1950s!! SHE WAS ALSO NOMINATED FOR AN ACADEMY AWARD FOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN THE 1988 FILM 'THE WALES OF AUGUST, (January 22, 1909 - March 15, 2001) was an American film actress. Born Harriette Arlene Lake in Valley City, North Dakota, Sothern left home very young and began her film career as an extra in silent films in 1927, aged 18. In a role at MGM originally intended for Jean Harlow, Sothern was cast as "Maisie", a bold, brassy but somewhat scatter-brained showgirl who was also an amateur detective.
