Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. 12mo, 184 pages + publisher's ads, powder blue cloth, spine darkened a trifle "Many married men are reduced to collecting Elzevirs, which go readily into the pocket for you cannot smuggle a folio volume easily. This inveterate dislike of books often produces a very deplorable resul…t when an old collector dies. His 'womankind,' as the Antiquary called them, sell all his treasures for the price of waste-paper, to the nearest country bookseller. . But this little work will not have been written in vain if it persuades the ladies who inherit books not to sell them hastily, without taking a good and disinterested opinion as to their value. They often dispose of treasures worth thousands, for a ten pound note, and take pride in the bargain." - p.62." Of course the pity is that few of "womankind" will read or will have read as far as page 62. Issued in the Art At Home series. With two chromolithographs of fine bindings from the All Souls' Library, drawn and colored by Dr. J. J. Wild. The pages on Illuminated MSS are by Rev. W. J. Loftie. With woodcuts from original drawings by Walter Crane, Kate Greenaway [ Thomson, GREENAWAY #120; Schuster & Engen, 108a]; and other woodcuts by Richard Doyle, William Blake, Thomas Bewick, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, George Cruikshank, George DuMaurier; and with two woodcuts by John Tenniel from the ALICE books. woodcuts, 2 chromolithos (ilustrador).

Condición: In fine condition. First edition. 4 original woodcuts by Ernst Kempter (2) and Aloys Ludwig Wach (2). First edition. In original illustrated soft cover. 24 p. Prose poems, the first book of Raith, an important figure in the Hungarian Avant-garde, who made the earliest translations of Apollinaire (published in the firs…t issue of "Tett"), and whose 1916 "Páris, Liège, Trencsényteplic" (also in "Tett") is now thought to be a source for Kassák's greatest poem. The woodcuts by the Swiss-born Kempter, whose work later appeared in "Das Kunstfenster," among other places, are especially striking. Prints by Aloys Ludwig Wachlmayr (later called Aloys Ludwig Wach, and here called Louis Marion Wachlmeier) were published in "Der Sturm," "Der Weg," and "Das Kunstblatt" often in the service of revolution. In "Alkonyi szimfónia" one finds a perfect instance of the interlocking circles of the international Avant-garde in the early teens. Rare. OCLC lists one copy only. . In original illustrated soft cover. 4 original woodcuts by Ernst Kempter (2) and Aloys Ludwig Wach (2). (ilustrador).

Hardcover. Condición: Very good. No jacket. First edition. First edition, trade issue. 8vo. 2 vols. Original pictorial cloth blocked in black & gilt. An attractive first edition account of Stanley's last major African venture, an attempt to extract Emin Pasha, a European doctor serving as governor of a remote Sudanese province t…hat had been cut off by a religious uprising. Between 1887 and 1889 his expedition forced a path through the Congo basin and dense, unmapped rainforest, reached the Great Lakes, and eventually made for the Indian Ocean with Emin in tow. The journey was catastrophic in human cost but geographically significant, bringing the first detailed reports of Lake Edward and the glaciated Ruwenzori mountains, long rumoured in classical sources. Some foxing, mainly limited to extremities of text-block; minor softening to heads of spines, but overall a fantastic set. Plates, woodcuts and maps (including 2 folding). (ilustrador). Book.
