Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. Slate grey coth boards with blind stamped title to front cover and gilt titles and decoration to spine. Very slight crack to tip of spine, edge wear and a small stain to rear board. Signature on fly leaf "Alison Brown, West Cottage Invergordon and dated Feb. 1913) [This shoulkd probably read 1915] Mabel Louisa Dean Paul, 1872-1919, was a prominent Edwardian socialite involved in several prominent scandals at the time. This book is very rare. it was published as a single limited print run and the author dies shortly after publication. The novel is partially set in Egypt and England. The plot follows a young, self-centred politician who finds himself deeply torn between an expected, conventional marriage back home in England and his genuine love for a woman he meets while traveling in Egypt. At the time of its release, the book received mixed reviews. Sympathetic newspapers praised its witty dialogue and scandalous intrigue, while harsher critics dismissed it as a poorly constructed story filled with unlikeable characters.…

hardcover. Condición: Very Good. First Edition. Publication: London, Hutchinson's Books for Young People, 1944 Formatting: Oblong 4to, pp. 40. Condition Report: Very Good. The original moss-green cloth boards remain firm and secure, though there is notable sunning and toning to the upper and outer margins of the front board where the dust-wrapper has allowed light exposure over time. The yellow stamped lettering on the upper board remains relatively bright and unrubbed. Internally, the binding is tight and square, with clean, unblemished pages that retain the vibrancy of the printed illustrations. The scarce, unclipped original dust-wrapper (priced 6/- net) exhibits moderate edgewear, including shallow chipping, creasing, and minor closed tears along the extremities and spine ends, yet it remains largely intact and presents well within a protective mylar sleeve. Catalogue Note: First edition. Illustrated throughout with vibrant colour plates and monochrome text drawings by Anne Rochester, whose intricate style perfectly complements the text. The book was produced during the wartime economy, making the survival of its original, unclipped dust-wrapper, which features wonderful wrap-around artwork of a blossoming May tree, highly unusual and exceptionally scarce on the open market. The rear panel of the jacket advertises other titles in Hutchinson's Gift Books series for children aged 5â"8 years. A charming and nostalgic mid-century children's tale, The Magic May Tree follows a whimsically illustrated adventure steeped in the English countryside. With evocative prose by Mabel Dean brought to life through Anne Rochesterâs vivid, enchanting depictions of blossoming nature and hidden spirits, this delightful story captures the timeless innocence and wonder of a childhood summer.
