From the late 1800s to today, comic books have been a distinct and beloved form of literature.
But the history of using pictures to tell stories stretches back centuries. From prehistoric cave paintings to modern superheroes to the manga we know and love, learn about the format’s many iterations through history and the remarkable people who have helped make comics what they are today.

Blake Hoena has written more than one hundred books for children, including an original graphic novel series, Eek & Ack, and graphic novel retellings of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Peter Pan. Blake lives in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with his wife, two dogs, two cats, and hundreds of comics.
Daimon Hampton is a comic book artist from the Southside of Chicago. He has been working on comics since 2012. His art style mixes his love for manga, superhero comics, and animation to communicate that confidence is overrated. He's not-so-well-known for his work on Mae, The DC New Talent Showcase 2023, and Jon Kent: This Internship is My Kryptonite, but mostly for ranting in public.
