The universal desire for holistic development involves a lot of strategies. Despite several strategies being undertaken to attain holistic development, it remains farfetched particularly in developing countries like Uganda which still grapples with poverty, unemployment, inequalities, low economic growth, corruption and mismanagement of public resources. This book joins the search by examining Higher Education (HE) one of the strategies of attaining holistic development. It does so by examining Development Studies (DS) programmes of Uganda Martyrs and Makerere universities in Uganda in terms of the curriculum, pedagogy and assessment, contribution of graduates, challenges and opportunities. The book contends that HE should not be sought for its own sake nor be given just to get jobs or promotions or fill and profit from the market but rather holistic development should be the leading factor. The analysis should help shed some light on HE to the Curriculum designers, graduates, academic staff, students, HE institutions, Development planners, policy makers, advocates, and practitioners or any one else who may be considering to study or supply HE.
