Sinopsis

The appeal of Henry Bond's photography lies in its deceptive simplicity. His photographs are portraits of modern urban life in all its incidental glory. The camera he uses is simple to operate and is widely available on the high street, one of Bond's favourite domains. It was this fact, together with the democratic implications of such cameras, that led Bond to produce the snapshots of London life that appear in this book. Parks, private parties, pop stars and local convenience stores all feature alongside fleeting shots of Titanic, Top Shop and Momo's. The result is a denser, darker photographic representation of one of the world's most invigorating urban areas.

Reseña del editor

English photographer Henry Bond strolls the streets of London, capturing authentic impressions of British youth culture in the late 1990s. Making sense of the dizzying blends of styles and attitudes, he compares his walks with a psychoanalytic session "in which everything can be talked about, everything can come out..". He playfully makes use of a wide range of stylistic methods: a telephoto lens produces indiscreet glimpses a la paparazzi, photos of shoes quote advertising and fashion photography, and grainy shots seem to come from surveillance video cameras monitoring street corners. Continuing themes from his first book, The Cult of the Street, Point and Shoot documents the shopping precinct, nightclub, and dance floor youth with over 200 over-size photographs.
