The two-volume set LNCS 5761 and LNCS 5762 constitute the refereed proceedings of the 12th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2009, held in London, UK, in September 2009. Based on rigorous peer reviews, the program committee carefully selected 259 revised papers from 804 submissions for presentation in two volumes. The second volume includes 134 papers divided in topical sections on shape modelling and analysis; motion analyysis, physical based modelling and image reconstruction; neuro, cell and multiscale image analysis; image analysis and computer aided diagnosis; and image segmentation and analysis.

The12thInternationalConferenceonMedicalImageComputingandComputer- Assisted Intervention, MICCAI 2009, was held in London, England at Imperial College during September 20-24, 2009. The venue was situated in one of L- don's ?nest locations, adjacent to landmarks such as The Royal Albert Hall and the Science, NaturalHistory and Victoria andAlbert Museums,with Hyde Park just a short walk away. Over the last decade, the MICCAI conferences have become a premier - ternational event, with papers of very high standard addressing the multid- ciplinary ?elds of biomedical image computing, computer-assisted intervention and medical robotics. The conference has attracted annually leading scientists, engineers and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines. This year, we received a record submission of 804 papers from 36 di?- ent countries worldwide. These covered medical image computing (functional and di?usion image analysis, segmentation, physical and functional modelling, shape analysis, atlases and statistical models, registration, data fusion and m- tiscale analysis),computer-assistedinterventionsandrobotics(planning and- ageguidanceofinterventions,simulationandtrainingsystems,clinicalplatforms, visualization and feedback, robotics and human-robot interaction), and clinical imagingandbiomarkers(computer-aideddiagnosis,organ/systemspeci? capp- cations, molecular and optical imaging and imaging biomarkers).
