Is it possible to compare the effectiveness of a course delivered online at a distance with a traditional face-to-face course? Many studies have tried and failed to find any significant difference between on-line and face-to-face courses due to poor research design and rigor. What is needed is a research model for conducting online and classroom comparison studies to provide consistency in research design, analysis, and reporting. This book provides a research model that includes the basics of describing the delivery (mediated) framework, appropriate research design and data analysis selection, and a blueprint for conducting and reporting the cost-benefit ratio based on a cost-benefit analysis. To provide an example of the model in action it was applied to First Connections, an online infant and toddler care provider-training program. This research model will be useful to education researchers and others in the education and educational technology fields.

Biografía del autor

Bradley S. Barker, Ph.D is an Assistant Professor and 4-H Science and Technology Specialist with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension, Lincoln, Nebraska. His current research interest include the use of digital manipulatives, especially educational robotics to teach science and technology in informal learning environments.
