"If I had but the time and you had but the brain."
- Lewis Carroll, The Hunting of the Snark (1876)
The Hunting of the Snark (1876) is a nonsense poem by Lewis Carroll in the same setting as his novel Through the Looking Glass (1871), the sequel to Alice in Wonderland (1865). The poem features a variety of characters vividly depicted in nine original illustrations by Henry Holiday in this replica of the original 1876 edition. Fans of the famed Jabberwocky poem by Carroll will enjoy the use of some of the same clever words created by the author such as jubjub, bandersnatch, and galumphing. This work which inspired Jack London's The Cruise of the Snark (1911) is a must-read for Carroll fans of all ages.

In 1865, English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832-1898), aka LEWIS CARROLL, wrote a fantastical adventure story for the young daughters of a friend. The adventures of Alice-named for one of the little girls to whom the book was dedicated-who journeys down a rabbit hole and into a whimsical underworld realm, instantly struck a chord with the British public, and then with readers around the world.
