Grade 5-8-A quick overview of world history over the past 200 years that's crammed with information about wars, inventions, exploration, social changes, and other important happenings. Because the book covers so much ground, the discussion of any one event is brief, and the text often seems like a recitation of facts and dates; however, it does give a sense of the breadth of what has happened. While the amount of detail is similar to or less than that found in a children's encyclopedia, there is value in the chronological approach. Many useful maps and timelines are included. Several illustrations appear on each page; they are a combination of full-color photographs and drawings-accompanied by long captions. The drawings are informative, but not outstanding. A useful addition where there is a need.
