BARBARA HARRISS-WHITE is a University Professor of Development Studies and Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford where she has twice convened the Wolfson College Lectures whose 1999 series form the core of this book. She is co-editor of Agricultural Markets from Theory to Practice; Sonar Bangla? Agricultural Growth and Agrarian Change in West Bengal and Bangladesh and Illfare in India: Essays on Indian's Social Sector in Honour of S.Guhan.
