This first volume of the two-volume catalogue of the Nasser B. Khalili ceramic collection concentrates on the beauty of the work of the early Muslim potters, which holds some of the most attractive and interesting examples known. Among these are several unparalleled masterpieces, and the Collection is particularly rich in Saljuq lustrewares of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries A.D., and in the pottery of the Timurid period. Full color illustrations of all major types of early Islamic pottery have never been published together in a single volume: here they are presented with brief introductory essays on each category, detailed discussions of individual objects, and a scholarly apparatus providing references to comparative pieces and to further reading.
