Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This volume is published in two parts dealing with the development of, respectively, porcelain and earthenware. The first part concentrates on Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan (1842-1916), illustrating more than 80 examples of his virtuoso work in porcelain.Kozan brought the medium to heights of tech…nical perfection not seen before and, ever responsive to market forces, produced wares with shapes and decoration in Japanese, Chinese, and European styles. An essay by Dr Oliver Impey and Malcolm Fairley traces the part played by Japanese porcelain in the international exhibitions of the period, while Clare Pollard contributes an artistic biography based on documentary research in Japan.By assembling such an outstanding group of ceramics and presenting them in the light of ground-breaking new research this volume makes a major contribution to the study and appreciation of Meiji art. This volume concentrates on the work of Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan (1842-1916) considered as the greatest living artist of his day. Includes 80 examples of his virtuoso work in porcelain, and an artistic biography by Clare Pollard. Includes a free copy of the volume on Select Essays. Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. 36.5 by 26.5cm. This volume is from a two-part set. The first part starts with the Ilkhanid pottery, which is extensive; it is particularly strong in blue-glazed lajvardina and lustre tilework, although virtually all types are represented. Judicious collect…ing has also created an important research resource for understanding the transition from Ilkhanid to Timurid styles. The pottery from Timurid Iran and Central Asia of the 15th century is noteworthy both because it is barely represented in other collections and because it enables links between Chinese and Islamic wares to be explored. This volume includes a small but important group of vessels and sherds from Mamluk Egypt and Syria. With slipcase. In publisher's shrink-wrap.

Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. 2 vols. 36 by 26cm., fully illustrated in colour, 574 pages (the set), section on technical analysis. The Nasser D. Khalili Collection includes more than 250 textiles, embroideries, carpets and costumes from across the Islamic lands dating from the 6th to t…he 19th centuries. This volume is in two parts, the first covering early Central Asia, Iran and Egypt, the Ottoman Empire and North Africa; the second covering later Iran and Central Asia, as well as India. The earliest textiles, of c. 6th century date, show Sasanian influence, while a group of Abbasid and Fatimid tiraz bands represent the emergence of an alternative tradition. More outstanding artistically are the Safavid and Ottoman gold brocades and velvets, and individual pieces such as a section of a silk and silver chasuble from Ottoman Bursa. A beautiful group of woven silks from Sultanate and Mughal India is of particular importance. The 'classical carpets' include examples from Mamluk, Safavid, Ottoman and Mughal royal workshops. Notable among the Ottoman carpets is a spectacular star Ushak. The Iranian carpets include a 16th-century Kashan medallion type in near perfect condition. The Collection is particularly rich in costumes, not often represented in other collections. These range from Ottoman shirts painted with talismanic inscriptions to the famous Kashmir shawls to some spectacular ikat coats and embroidered mantles from 19th-century Central Asia. With slipcase. In publisher's shrink-wrap.

Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. 2 Vols., 36 by 26.5cm., 703 pp., fully illustrated in colour. The Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art provides an unrivalled resource for the study of Islamic jewellery, with nearly 600 catalogued pieces in gold, silver and copper alloys, of all per…iods from the 7th to the 20th centuries and from throughout the Islamic world Spain to Malaysia, and Africa to the Eurasian steppes. Various sectors of production and clienteles are represented, from the court to bespoke jewellery to the urban marketplace. The jewellery also illustrates a correspondingly wide range of techniques and materials, including all the main methods of working gold, silver and copper alloys and their decoration especially filigree, niello, enamel and the setting of gems. Inevitably some periods, areas and techniques are better represented than others, but overall the Collection is remarkably comprehensive and in some areas, such as the Fatimid filigree, is among the finest in the world. With slipcase. In publisher's shrink-wrap.

Hardcover. Condición: New. Estado de la sobrecubierta: New. 1st Edition. 36.5 by 26.5cm., 373pp., fully illustrated in colour. This second volume of 'A Rival to China' comprises Ottoman pottery and tiles from the 16th to the 19th century, and an impressive range of Safavid and Qajar ceramics covering almost every known type. A r…ecurring theme of this volume is the impact of Chinese porcelains, and this part features some Far Eastern imports, particularly items made specifically for the Middle Eastern market. It also includes European pieces that paid homage to Ottoman ceramics, alongside Iranian pottery and tiles made primarily for the orientalist market in Europe. The material in this part vividly illustrates the diverse currents in ceramic production in the central Islamic lands in the time of the Gunpowder Empires. With slipcase. In publisher's shrink-wrap.
