WHAT MAN CAN MAKE OF MAN BY PROF. WILLIAM ERNEST H0CKING 1942 1ST HC DJ. In this small book Professor Hocking of Harvard analyzes man s deepest dilemmas and suggests the healing fact that would make possible the next upward step in human progress. I was not aware of his work but Wikipedia- as usual provided me with some salient points about him a small portion of which I transcribe here below: William Ernest Hocking (August 10, 1873 June 12, 1966) was an American idealist philosopher at Harvard University. He continued the work of his philosophical teacher Josiah Royce (the founder of American Idealism) in revising idealism to integrate and fit nto empiricism, naturalism and and pragmatism…. His major field of study was the philosophy of religion, but his 22 books included discussions of philosophy and human rights, world politics, freedom of the press, the philosophical psychology of human nature; education; and more. I am pleased to offer a rather scarce book of his (none found online) titled: What Man Can Make of Man by William Ernest Hocking. This small hard cover book (5 ¼ x 7 ½ inches 63 pages) was published by Harper & Brothers of New York dated 1942 and the First Edition (so stated). The book is bound in black cloth boards with once gilt titles on the spine and protected by a printed paper dust jacket. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows some minor edge wear particularly on the top edge where there are a few small tears and some fraying to the top of the spine. The hard covers are clean and bright and very slightly worn at the top of the spine where the dust jacket is chipped. The gilt titles on the spine are no longer really visible. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
