NOTE: On November 30, 2022 The Washington Post announced that it will stop publishing its stand-alone print magazine, one of the last of its kind in the country and which has been published under different names for more than six decades, and that the December 25, 2002 issue will be its last. The Post launched the magazine in its current form in 1986, though it had published a print Sunday magazine for the previous quarter century. On January 6, 2021, following the defeat of then-U.S. President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, a large group of his supporters marched to the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. With building security breached, Capitol Police evacuated and locked down both chambers of Congress and several buildings in the Capitol Complex. Protesters occupied the empty Senate chamber while federal law enforcement officers defended the evacuated House floor. In a Twitter video, he reasserted that the election was "fraudulent," but told his supporters to "go home in peace". The Capitol was clear of protesters by mid-evening, and the counting of the electoral votes resumed and was completed in the early morning hours of January 7. Pence declared President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris victorious. Trump later committed to an orderly transition of power in a televised statement.
