"Wagner on Records" is all about what was available on the old 78 rpm records, which represented , at the time, the most modern of sound reproduction. The book was written by Robert Bagar, who was a Pianist, Music Critic for the New York "World Telegram", and Program Annotator for the New York Philharmonic Symphony Society. The Foreword was written by Fritz Reiner (1888 - 1963), the famous conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He directed both Symphonic music and orchestral arrangements for operas. The book was published by The Four Corners Press in New York in paperback format. This is the First Edition, so identified on the verso of the title page. As well as a discography, the book contains a brief discussion of Wagner's life and music. What an amazing core of great music : Niebelungen, the entire Ring Cycle, Lohengrin, Meistersingers, Siegfrid, Tristan and Isolde, Flying Dutchman, Götterdammerüng etc. !! ******************************************* The book measures 4 7/8" x 6 7/8" and featuring a bright cover illustration in a modernistic style; to me this cover illustration is wonderful - iconic, and majestic - as suits the music of Richard Wagner. Opposite the title page is a frontispiece which is a line drawing of Wagner. The artist of neither the cover art , nor the portrait , is identified. There are small line drawings that head each of the four chapters. ******************************************* SERIES : Untitled, [but : "Famous Composers on 78 RPM Records"] / TITLE : Wagner on Records / AUTHOR : Robert Bagar (1899 - 1957) / FOREWORD : Fritz Reiner (1888 - 1963) / IMPRINT : The Four Corners Press / PLACE : New York / DATE : (1942) / EDITION : First Edition (PBO) / STATUS : OP / PHYSICAL DETAILS : Paperback format; has a frontispiece drawing of Wagner; there are also small line drawings at the head of each chapter ; 95 pages ; 4 7/8" x 6 7/8"; color pictorial stiff card stock wraps, stapled and glued. ****************************************** CONDITION - GOOD PLUS - This is a previously owned book that shows wear, bu essentially remains clean and serviceable, with the following particulars noted: EXTERIOR -- Spine has mild nicking to extremities, but no creasing.
