A second printing of the true first edition, with 'Published in 1993 - Reprinted in 1993' on the printer's page. Published as a paperback original. The book was an immediate success, and went on the win the 1993 Forward Poetry Prize and the Whitbread Poetry Award - hence the quick reprinting of the book by the publisher. ***A virtually fine copy in the dark-blue glossy card covers, printed in white, blue and mauve. There are no obvious faults - no rubbing, creasing bumps or tears. No fading. Internally also fine with no ownership inscriptions or annotations. Printed on lovely quality cream laid paper. ***214mm x 138mm. 52 pages plus two pages of publisher's adverts at the back of the book. ***'Many of the poems in Carol Ann Duffy's fourth collection reflect on time, change and loss. In dramatizing scenes of childhood, adolescence and adult life, whether personal or public, contemporary or historical, she discovers moments of consolation through love, memory and language. This is another compelling book by one of Britain's most original poets.' (Quote taken from the back cover) ***'Dame Carol Ann Duffy (born 23 Dec 1955) is a Scottish poet and playwright. She is a professor of contemporary poetry at Manchester Metropolitan University, and was appointed Poet Laureate in May 2009, serving in this position until her term ended in 2019. She was the first female, the first Scottish-born and the first openly lesbian poet to hold the Poet Laureate position. Her collections include "Standing Female Nude" (1985), winner of a Scottish Arts Council Book Award; "Selling Manhattan" (1987), which won a Somerset Maugham Award; "Mean Time" (1993), which won the Whitbread Poetry Award; and "Rapture" (2005), which won the T. S. Eliot Prize. Her poems address issues such as oppression, gender, and violence, in accessible language.' (Wiki) ***Second printing of the true first edition, published as a paperback original. A virtually fine copy - of interest to collectors of the poetry of sometime Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…
