Sermons. 1655-1682. A wonderful group of 17th century Sermons, largely complete, with a four page contemporary list of contents at the beginning of the volume. Highlights include; George Hall, A Fast-Sermon, Preached to the Lords. On the Day of Solemn Humiliation for the Continuing Pestilence, engraved ornament on title, [Wing H335], Timothy Garthwait, 1666, bound with, Gilbert Burnet, A Sermon Preached before the Right-Honourable the Lord-Mayor and aldermen of the City of London, initial imprimatur f., [Wing B5872], for Richard Chiswel, 1680, bound with, Peter Du Moulin, A Sermon Preach'd in St. Martins Church in the Suburbs of Canterbury, Sept. 14. 1669. at the Funeral of the Right Honourable Mabella, Lady Fordwitch, title within black border, [Wing D2566], for J. Morgan, 1669, bound with, William Lloyd, A Sermon at the Funeral of Sir Edmund-Berry Godfrey., who was Barbarously Murthered. Preached on Thursday the last day of October 1678 in the Parish Church of St.Martin in the Fields, with initial imprimatur and final blank f., title within black border, [Wing L2700b], by Tho. Newcomb, 1678, bound with, George Hall, Gods Appearing for the Tribe of Levi: Improved in a Sermon Preached at St. Paul's, Nov. 8. to the Sons of Ministers, then solemnly Assembled. Nicely bound in full contemporary calf, the spine in six compartments decorated in gilt, with five raised bands. A red leather lettering piece with hand stamped letters (Probably early 18th C) in the second compartment from the top. Nice contemporary 17th C marbling on the page edges. The binding strong and firm, but with the bottom front hinge cracked up to the first cord. The spine and boards with some scuffing and cracks but generally in very good condition. Internally the front endpaper and 2 leaves of contents coming loose. Lacking the title page on the last volume, one leaf loose on one sermon, lacking one blank on another, else all complete. The contents clean with the odd catchword shaved and with a bit of worming at the front. For a complete detailed collated list of the contents and additional photographs please go to our website.
