The most magnificent volume in the library of golf, bound in full red morocco leather with tooled gilt decoration of a lion emblem lettered "Far & Sure" to the front cover and lettering. With color frontispiece, two full-color illustrations, two photogravures, numerous black and white illustrations, tissue guards present, also many Head and Tail Pieces drawn by Harry Rountree. All page edges gilt, with ribbon for place marking bound into top of spine. This place marker ribbon is present and complete with slight fraying at the ribbon's point. A sampling of the contents includes Golf: Its Origin and History, The Principal Golf Greens, The Game in America, University Golf Cambridge, Golf Greens on Sand and in Dry Climates, and Continental Golf: The Riviera and Switzerland. Authors include Garden Smith, Horace Hutchinson, Harold Hilton, Bernard Darwin, Martin Sutton, and A. H. Crosfield. Of special interest to collectors and bibliophiles is the Appendix listing of golf books published to date. The list of Subscribers is around 500 names, the heart & soul of the golf world: C. B. Macdonald, Walter Travis, Max Behr, Hugh Playfair, Sir Henry Seton-Karr, Bart., et al. This is copy #221, belonging to one of the original subscribers, his name on the List of Subscribers, Lionel Geo. Jackson, the subscriber's name written in "L. G. Jackson". Mr. Jackson was a member of Sundridge Park Golf Club and resided in Bromley. All original covers are bright and complete with minimal surface wear. One black spot mid spine, traces of black in part of the title lettering, one small black spot rear cover. Original silk endpapers clean without former owner name or bookplate, hinges complete and unsplit. Ffep with light edge wear, lower corner creased. Contents clean and bright without notations, underlining, etc. Upper corner creased last two pages, now with archival backing. Binding tight. Covers protected in mylar.
