First section 400pp. There are six seperate title pages and paginations, each with plates, some of which are in color. There are 109 total gorgeous plates of mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and birds present of which 28 are color plates of birds. In order they appear thes sections have the following number of plates: 21 b&w, 20 of which 7 in color, 34 of which 11 in color, 4 of which 3 in color, 26 of which 7 in color, and 4 b&w. The second title page reads "Report of Lieut E. G. Beckwith, third artillery, upon Explorations for a Railroad Route, near the 38th and 39th Parallels of North Latitude, by Captain J. W. Gunnison, Corps of Topographical Engineers, and near the Forty First Parallel of North Latitude", published 1854. 3rd title page reads: "Report of Explorations for a Railway Route (Near the Thirty-fifth Parallel of North Latitude) from the Mississippi River ot the Pacific Ocean by Lieutenant A. W. Whipple assisted by Lieutenant J. C. Ives", published 1853-'54, 64pp. 4th title page: "Report of Exploration for a Railroad Route near the 32d Parallel of North Latitude, lying between Dona Ana, on the Rio Grande, and Pimas Villages, on the Gila, by Lieutenant John G. Williamson, published 1853, 97pp. 6th title page: "Report of Lieut. Henry L. Abbot Upon Explorations for a Railroad Route, from the Sacramento Valley to the Columbia River, made by Lieut R. S. Williamson, assisted by Lieut. Henry L. Abbot", published 1855, pp13. Gutter cracked and weak, spine heavily worn. The pagination of the plates is confusing with duplicate numbers used and gaps and restarts in the numeration of each section. It is not clear to me how many plates are meant to be present, this is likely incomplete, but they plates present especially the color plates are very well done and in nice condition.
