8vo. A spectacular 1903 1st Edition, 1st Printing of this turn of the last century Maine wilderness memoir, in Fine condition. Frederick Barker (1853-1937) lived in the Rangeley Region of Maine and was what one might call a wilderness renaissance man. He owned several camps, "The Barker", a hotel on Mooselookmeguntic Lake, and was an experienced woodsman, trapper, trader, and steamboat captain as well. Some of the steamboats he operated include the Ooozaluc", "William P. Frye", Florence", "Oquossuc", among others. It is from these rich experiences he draws upon in this engaging memoir. Chapters include "Camping Out", "The Indian Chief Metalluk," "First Experience in Logging," "Guiding Days," "Camp Bemis and the Birches," "Experiences on the Ice", "Camp Life as it Was,", and others. 1st Printing, with month and year publishing date present (Mcbride). 230 pp, 16 black and white plates, including frontis. Book and dust jacket in Fine condition with no wear. Illustrated green cloth. Square tight binding. Clean interior. Dust Jacket presents handsomely in archival mylar.
